Trang airport to the island piers — which pier, what it costs, how to get there.
You have landed at Trang, or stepped off the train, and you want Koh Mook, Koh Kradan, Koh Ngai or Koh Libong. Here is which pier goes where, what the options cost roughly, and how a scooter fits in.

First, the lay of the land
Trang airport sits just outside Trang town. The piers are on the coast to the west and south-west, all roughly 40–45 km from the airport. Nothing here is far, but nothing is next to anything either.

Which pier for which island
Three piers, and the one you want depends on the island. Operators and timetables change by season and by year. This is how it ran in the 2025–26 season, written September 2026 — treat it as the shape of things and confirm with the ticket seller on the day.
The three piers
At the north end of Pak Meng beach, ~10 km from Sikao. In past high seasons a daily ferry has run to Koh Ngai (about an hour). Longtails go to Koh Ngai, Koh Kradan, Koh Mook and Koh Libong, and the boatmen wait for enough passengers before they leave.
A small pier south of Pak Meng on the same coast. This is where the year-round local boat to Koh Mook has left from, and where the combined minivan-and-boat tickets for Koh Kradan usually head.
Further south, about 45 minutes from Trang town. Local boats to Koh Libong go from here, and in high season the long-distance ferries between Phuket, Koh Lanta and Koh Lipe have called here too, stopping at Koh Mook and Koh Kradan on the way.
Sikao Hire delivers bikes to Pak Meng pier and Hat Yao pier. Kuan Tung Ku is not on our standard list — ask us and we will see what we can do.
Your four ways to the boat
Prices are what people have paid in past seasons, rounded. They move every year. Ask at the counter, not this page, for today’s number.
- Shared minivan — about ฿100 to the pier, ฿250–500 with the boat ticketFrom Trang town, often sold together with the boat. 45 min–1 h plus waiting. Good if you are on a budget and the timing works.
- Private transfer — about ฿1,000+ per vehicleCar or minivan booked ahead, 45 min–1 h door to pier. Good if you are a group, or land late. Or hire a car from ฿800 a day with free handover at the airport — see car hire.
- Airport taxi — about ฿150 to town, more to the coast (agree it first)Negotiated at the door, 45 min–1 h. Good if you want to leave right now.
- Scooter (that is us) — ฿350 a day plus ฿100 deliveryDelivered to your hotel, or the airport on request. About an hour to the pier at an easy pace. Good if you want the mainland too: beaches, Sikao, a night before the boat.
What to do with the bike while you are on an island
This is the question everyone asks, and the answer is: talk to us before you book. It depends on how long you are gone and where you come back to — these are the arrangements we can usually make.
We collect it at the pier
Ride to Pak Meng pier or Hat Yao pier, hand it over, get on the boat. Your hire ends there. Do not leave a bike unattended at a pier for days.
We hold it for you
Going for two nights and coming back to the same pier? We can keep the bike and meet you off the boat.
We deliver it on your return
Flying in, island first, mainland after? Tell us your return boat and we will have the bike waiting at the pier.
All of these are a quick WhatsApp conversation, not a published price. Tell us your dates and boat, and we will sort it.
The islands close for part of the monsoon
Koh Mook, Koh Kradan, the Emerald Cave and the small islands around them sit inside Hat Chao Mai National Park. In past years the park has closed those islands for a stretch of the wet season — announcements have named June to September, but the exact dates have moved from year to year, and access has sometimes been restricted for other reasons, such as the coral bleaching that suspended snorkelling at Koh Kradan in 2024.
Before you plan a June-to-October trip, check the current year’s notice from the Department of National Parks or ask your island resort directly. Boats to Koh Ngai and Koh Libong have generally kept running year-round, but fewer of them, and the sea can cancel a day.
What to pack for the ride to the pier
- A dry bag, or two bin linersLongtails are wet. Your rucksack goes on the floor of the boat
- Sunscreen and a long sleeveThe airport-to-coast road is open and the sun is directly overhead by 11:00
- CashBoat tickets, sidecar taxis on the islands and pier snacks are cash. Get it out in Trang or Sikao; do not count on an ATM at the pier
- Your licence and passportYou need the licence for the bike. We only take a copy of the passport; you keep the original for the island resort
- A rain jacket from May to OctoberShowers come in fast and sideways off the sea. The road dries in twenty minutes; you take longer
- Small luggage on the bikeA 40-litre bag between your feet or on your back is fine. A hard suitcase is not — take a taxi for that leg and ask us to deliver the bike to your hotel instead
